About me

In my language we said “halo” instead of “hello” which sometimes slipped up when we greet someone in English.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Debby, I am from Indonesia. From a relatively-big-port city called Surabaya.

Surabaya is a great city actually (definitely biased because I grew up here), only 30 minutes flight from Bali (because people definitely asked how far Surabaya is from Bali), has the great components of a big city (you know, the malls, the tall buildings, cars that definitely more than it should have been) while its residents love the city itself.

Why do you call yourself Zombie?

Because of my major! I had finished and got my medical degree in 2017. I started medical school in 2011. While I finished medical school within 6 years (the standard amount of time needed in Indonesia), I can definitely say it was not easy! The first pre-clinic 4 years was relatively easy despite the hectic schedule. But! the next two years was probably the most intense roller coaster ride of my life.

Two years of Clinical practice (which means peeling ourselves from the books and facing the real word) had made me into a automated human being with constant schedule of: Waking up-shower-breakfast-go to the hospital-go home-study/do assignments-sleep. Repeat for the next 2 years. Which made me a very food-driven person (I wake up for breakfast!) while always being sleepy!

So I called myself a Zombie ever since. Which my friends definitely agreed.

About writing…

I love writing! I started writing in journals since I was 8 years old, started writing fiction when I was 11, and started my first blog when I was 14.

Writing is my number one passion. I am really glad it is. Because I can do it whenever, whatever career path I choose to take.

I love writing fiction the most. I love making new characters, making beautiful happy endings (and sad endings too), finding chemistry between the characters, forcing my friends to read my writings (Haha! Thanks my friends!), everything about it. I couldn’t write enough about how much I love writing fiction.

First Impression is Deceiving

I am definitely your true blue introvert! In real life you can definitely get the wrong impression because I like meeting new people. I like to tell stories, and I definitely like to laugh a lot.

But I am actually a really private person. It may seem that I like to tell stories about my life, but they are the stories I thought are okay to share. My social media definitely shows that, with the very sporadic (once a year?) posts, the locked accounts and so on. So I apologize if I update very sporadically or if I don’t share a lot of my life.

My other hobbies are

I am a literature person! I like learning new language and improving the existing. Which means my hobbies are writing (as mentioned), reading, watching films.

An art person too. My family members have the most amazing talents in arts, I don’t have the same passion or talent as them, but I like doing arts occasionally. I do photography, videography, and editing for fun. I most certainly wish I could draw as well as my siblings!

I learnt how to bake bread when I was still hunting for a job after my internship. Just bread, no baking cookies or cake for me since I don’t like working with all purpose flour. Even though nowadays I don’t bake as much, I still find time to do it once in while. My favorite bread to bake is Brioche.

Technology! I love learning about new gadgets and the thrill of new features.

I also have some degree of fascination about gemstones and want to learn more about them. Which is funny since the field of specialty that I am taking loosely correlates with observing some things thoroughly. Maybe in another life I’ll be a gemologist?

And of course, sleeping!

Let’s get through this life together, shall we?
